Size & Weight

This personal size New King James Version bible is outstanding for mobility purposes and for just reading while lounging around the house. It really isn’t any larger than your typical paperback book. It is also very light weight. When it comes to the New King James Version, I grab this bible over the others that are on my shelf just because of its smaller size and weight.

Durability

The binding of this bible appears to be sturdy and the bonded leather provides a thick layer of protection. I also was very impressed with the flexibility of the bible. It lays flat on the table when open whereas many other bibles will only stay open if you have it near the mid point so that it is counter-weighted on both sides. Even if I have it open to the book of Genesis it does a good job lying flat. I really like the ribbon on this bible as well. Nelson bibles always seem to produce a good quality ribbon.

Content

This is a reference bible which means the publisher gives several cross references to verses throughout the bible to assist you with further studies. While there are many cross references found throughout, I felt the bible could have provided more. Each book of the bible has a small yet very satisfying introduction essay that I really enjoyed reading. There are also eight colored maps at the back of the bible. This bible has beautiful black and gold matching thumb index tabs. I was afraid these tabs may fall off because they are glued/attached to the paper and not written on the pages themselves but I have not seen any indications that they will fail. These tabs make accessibility to the scriptures very fast and efficient. Also, all of Jesus’ words are written in red lettering.

Final Thoughts

I have many bibles and when it comes to the New King James Version, this one is at the top of my list. I would highly recommend this bible to anyone. It is so light weight and the giant print is very easy to read. The index tabs are beautiful and the short introduction essays found at the beginning to each book are accurate and informative. I am very impressed with the quality and layout of this NKJV bible.
